The National Standardization Administration of China issued a new national product standard GB/T 40180-2021 Infant Buoyant Swimsuit, which will be implemented from December 1, 2021.
Infant and Toddler Buoyant Swimsuit GB/T 40180-2021 Abstract:
Infant and Toddler Buoyant Swimsuit Range:
The document specifies the terms, definitions, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marks, packaging, transportation and storage of baby and child buoyancy swimwear.
The document is applicable to buoyancy swimwear worn by infants and children aged 14 years and under, mainly made of textile fabrics. Other wearable buoyancy products such as neck ring, arm ring, chest strap, backpack, etc. can be implemented by reference.
The document is not applicable to life jackets and buoyancy aids mainly made of plastic.
GB/T 40180-2021 Terms and Definitions:
1.Initial buoyancy（original buoyancy）
Before the buoyancy swimsuit is used for the first time, completely immerse it in the water, and measure the vertical upward force of the water on the buoyancy swimsuit according to the specified conditions.
2.inherent buoyancy
The buoyancy of an object with a density smaller than water, or an object with a sealed gas chamber filled with gas
3.Buoyant swimwear
Wearable clothing mainly made of textile fabrics and equipped with buoyancy materials and/or inflatable chambers to provide buoyancy required for underwater movement.
Note: such as trousers, tops, vests, etc.
GB/T 40180-2021 Main requirements:
1. Instructions
a) Instructions for the use of finished products, including the materials of buoyancy materials and the correct wearing or use methods of buoyancy swimwear
b) Model, specification and model shall be marked with the weight range in kg, and the age range for trial wear can be added.
c) Warning signs shall be printed or embossed on the durability label or the prominent position of the product, and the warning signs shall be clear and easy to understand during the use of the product.

3. Quality requirements
a) Basic requirements: the formaldehyde content, PH value, odor, decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amine dye, heavy metal content, phthalate ester, combustion performance, filler, accessories, residual metal needle and other relevant requirements of infant and child buoyancy swimwear products shall comply with GB 31701.
b) Internal quality requirements, color fastness/grade requirements for facing/lining materials, specifically including indicators of dry friction resistance, wet friction resistance, water resistance, saliva resistance, sweat resistance, soap washing resistance, seawater resistance, chlorinated water (swimming pool water) discoloration resistance, splicing mutual dyeing degree and light resistance.
c) Tensile elastic elongation, straight and horizontal indicators.
d) Index of tensile rebound recovery rate of chlorine resistant water (swimming pool water).
e) Tearing strength, seam strength, seam slippage degree, bursting strength index.
4. Appearance quality
a) Appearance defect, destructive defect, linear/strip defect, spot (rust, oil, color and other stains).
b) Symmetrical part difference requirements.
c) Zipper and accessories.
d) Suture and sewing requirements.
e) Downshift.
